Coach
Jan Fouché is a Cape Town-based actor, director and acting coach who completed his Advanced Acting for Film training at Act Cape Town. Since graduating in 2015, he has built a diverse career across stage and screen, working on both local and international productions. His film and television credits include Cars That Built the World, Op Straat and ROM: Immortal, while his stage work includes Hel op Hemel en Aarde, Family Fees, Slagoffers, Boekbuddies and Hamlet. Most recently, he starred in the one-person show The Dropped Baby, directed by Digby Young.
Jan made his directorial debut in 2022 with Shakespeare’s Macbeth, produced by Educasions, and has since directed productions of Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet. Alongside his work as an actor and director, he has gained extensive behind-the-scenes experience as an assistant director, continuity supervisor, head of wardrobe and technical assistant, giving him a comprehensive understanding of every stage of the filmmaking and theatre-making process. He also regularly serves as a judge for local public speaking and debate competitions hosted by the ATKV, reflecting his ongoing commitment to developing confident and authentic performers.
As a coach at ACT, Jan sees acting as both a craft and a lifelong curiosity about people and human behaviour. Endeared to his students for his genuine care and thoughtful guidance, Jan creates an environment where every actor feels supported while being challenged to achieve more than they thought possible. His teaching blends discipline with curiosity, encouraging students to work truthfully, think independently and trust their own instincts.
Passionate about developing thoughtful and resilient actors, Jan believes the strongest performances are rooted in honesty, imagination and a deep respect for the craft of storytelling.
