Head of Campus
Grant Swanby is an actor, producer, acting coach and Head of Campus at Act Cape Town. With more than 30 years of professional experience in the entertainment industry, he has built an extensive career across film, television, theatre and coaching, earning a reputation as one of South Africa’s most respected industry practitioners.
His screen credits include Beyond the River, The Fall, Blood Diamond, Black Butterflies, Recipes for Love and Murder, Invasion, Troy: Fall of a City and Women in Love. On stage, he has appeared in acclaimed productions including Waiting for the Barbarians, The Taming of the Shrew, Much Ado About Nothing and Saturday Night at the Palace. As a producer, Grant has brought to life several award-winning South African productions, including Mirre en Aalwyn, Land van Skedels, Babbel, Lot, In Glas and Trippie.
Grant has worked extensively in the corporate sector as an actor, writer, director, facilitator and performance coach, creating more than 50 corporate theatre productions and training programmes. Throughout his career, he has received numerous nominations and awards in recognition of his achievements as both an actor and producer.
Having coached actors for more than two decades, Grant was appointed Head of Campus at Act Cape Town in 2026. Appreciated by his students for his depth of knowledge, honesty, generosity and commitment to their success, Grant creates a learning environment that is both challenging and deeply supportive, equipping actors with the skills, discipline and confidence needed to succeed in the industry.
